Frequently asked questions

For deployment to commercial embedded systems, Unity Industry is required. For commercial embedded deployments, an embedded deployment license is required. Contact us to assess your support requirements and get a quote for your project.

Unity supports a range of AMD64 and ARM64-based embedded chipsets running Embedded Linux, QNX, Android, or Windows. Some combinations of these are considered standard platforms that are continuously tested and working. For platforms not on this list, an embedded support package is available that will extend support to your defined embedded platform configuration.

Yes. Internal prototypes and demos are not subject to royalties. Commercial and productively used devices, however, are subject to our embedded terms, which require a license for the distribution of Unity as part of an embedded system.

Yes, customers can access embedded platforms for evaluation purposes to test Unity on their system.

No. Royalties are always for deployment to an agreed upon number of defined devices over an agreed upon period of time.

Due to the longer-term support often required for embedded systems, only LTS versions of Unity are supported. Customers may be required to upgrade to a newer version if the initial LTS version is no longer supported.

The optional embedded platform support package will ensure that support for the older LTS version for your platform will be extended for the duration of the contract or that the platform under the support package will continue to be supported in the newer LTS version, in the case of deprecation of support for the platform you are using.

The system requirements for platforms specific to embedded systems can be found here. The requirements for embedded platforms systems based on desktop platforms are the same as those for the respective desktop platforms.

Yes, there are many ways to integrate backend data from an embedded system. Options include native plugins, web sockets, or an interface to Java on Android.
